For the past several years the Portland Country Club has kept six bee hives on their property. The Assistant Superintendent of grounds, Markus Wiles, has been managing the hives. Markus has been taking bee keeping classes through the Honey Exchange in Portland as well through the U-Maine cooperative extension. His continual education and passion for honey bees has led to multiple gallons of honey each summer.
Portland Country Club continues to focus on environmental stewardship. Honey bees are often referred to as the ambassadors to nature. They teach us to be cognizant of the golf course landscape, inspiring the staff to create more bee habitat and less monoculture turf areas. Environmental concerns regarding pesticides has been an ongoing concern with the Club. Bees are highly sensitive to pesticides especially insecticides. The grounds staff takes pride in maintaining a beautiful golf course while creating safe habitats for the honey bees.

A Donald Ross design, Portland Country Club is an enjoyable course that is walkable and will test your game at every turn.The front nine offers stunning views of Casco Bay and downtown Portland. The back nine features wooded fairways that will test your creativity before a final stretch takes you back towards the ocean. Each round's beauty and ever-changing conditions will keep you coming back.
At Portland Country Club, events are more than just planned. We ensure all the details of your special event are exactly what you asked for. The Club has a variety of rooms to meet most needs. We regularly accommodate events for groups as small as 4 or as large as 250.

RACKET SPORTS
The Portland Country Club offers one of the finest tennis facilities in the state of Maine. Our eight clay courts are available for play from early May until Mid-October.
